Subject: On mean memes in general Date: Fri, 15 Feb 2002 21:22:39 +0100 From: Frank Visser To: f.visser3@chello.nl WILBER FRIEND MAILING LIST ========================== http://www.worldofkenwilber.com Amsterdam, February 16, 2002 Hi Wilber Friend, Recent additions to The World of Ken Wilber Website: ON MEAN MEMES IN GENERAL Some groups in the field of Wilber and Spiral Dynamics studies have expressed concerns about the apparent "right wing" nature of most of their views. The Mean Green Meme has been analysed by Wilber as the greatest obstacle to integral thought, but what about the unhealthy manifestations of the other memes in the world: expansive capitalism or globalism, and religious or nationalistic fundamentalism? Is it fair to criticize the left-wing social movements, and keep silent about the developments these groups try to counter? Bill Moyer has summarized these concerns in a long posting, originally published on the SD listserve, called "The Missing Link of Ken Wilber and Spiral Dynamics: The Mean Orange Meme and the Healthy Green Meme". At my initiative, Wilber has responded to Moyer (and those who share these concerns) with his reply "On mean memes in general: Red to Blue to Orange to Green to Yellow...". He writes that it is mostly time constraints that have forced him to focus on what, in his opinion, "is the crux of the difficulty at this time": the unhealthy manifestations of the green meme in cultural studies and politics. But he also recognizes that the Mean Orange Meme is to blame for a lot of the world's wrongs, "it gets the prize for nastiest of the nasty memes". And he equally is not blind for the Mean Blue Meme as it has found expression in Bush' retoric of the "Axis of Evil", "its own imperialism is much worse than that of orange or green." Both essays can be accessed through the top links on the WELCOME page, the recent additions list on the READING ROOM page, and of course the list on the WHAT'S NEW page. This exchange hopefully starts off a true debate on the scope and substance, and possible one-sidedness, of integral politics. INTEGRAL BUSINESS PROGRAM Leo Burke from the Notre Dame University starts a course in Integral Leadership, endorsed by Ken Wilber, on April 21, "aimed directly at executives and emerging leaders who have built or wish to build successful organizations". The program includes: - A focus on the cognitive, emotional, interpersonal, physical, moral and spiritual facets of development - The integration of coaching, simulation, action learning, directed inquiry, and a 360-degree review process - Negotiation, innovation, communication and collaboration skill development - Two one-week sessions on campus separated by six weeks of on-the-job application. See the yellow banner on the WELCOME page, or again the WHAT'S NEW list. CONCEITOS PRINCIPAIS Priscila and Moacyr Castellani have translated the complete CORE CONCEPTS section of this website into Portuguese: The Pre/Trans Fallacy, The Four Quadrants, The Ten Levels of Consciousness, Integral Politics, Involution and Evolution, and more.
