TABLE 2 THE RELATIONSHIP OF INDIVIDUAL (AGENTIC) AND SOCIAL (COMMUNAL) ASPECTS OF INDIVIDUAL AND SOCIAL HOLONS
This table contains the same relationships as shown in the right-hand side of Table 1, but rearranged to show how the individual aspects (agency) of individual holons are correlated with the social aspects (communion) of social holons, and vice-versa. On any level of existence, the agency of individual holons and communion of social holons are highest on the bottom stage, which consists of completely autonomous, non-interacting holons. A group of such holons is a heap. Conversely, the communion of individual holons and agency of social holons is highest at the top of any level. Intermediate stages exhibit inermediate degrees of agency/communion. As noted in text, these relationships hold, for social holons, only when they are in the process of developing or evolving, though for individual holons they are always as indicated. |
