This revolution is pointing to the need for a radical new interpretation of the nature of the number system, which ultimately concerns the relationship of quantitative to qualitative type understanding. For several millennia, we have sought to interpret the number system in a fixed absolute manner, independent of normal experience. However developments within Mathematics itself are already suggesting that this view is fundamentally in error. Part I: Mathematics at a Crossroads http://www.integralworld.net/collins26.html Part II: Holistic Role of Zeta Zeros http://www.integralworld.net/collins27.html Part III: The Bigger Picture http://www.integralworld.net/collins28.html THE ART FORM OF MATHEMATICS - A Response to Peter Collins - ELLIOT BENJAMIN As you can see, I love mathematics—I'm a pure mathematician and number theorist, and I think I made my love of mathematics quite clear to Integral World readers from one of my first Integral World essays, entitled Integral Mathematics: A Four Quadrants Approach. Consequently I take personal offense from what I perceive as Peter Collins's condescending depiction of pure mathematics and number theory that he describes in his recent articles). His perspective conveys to me that my career and my life as a pure mathematician is—for lack of a better word—“bogus.” Read more: http://www.integralworld.net/benjamin60.html RECOGNISING THE SHADOW - A Reply to Elliot Benjamin - PETER COLLINS Firstly I want to sincerely thank Frank for posting my latest articles (Dynamic Nature of the Number System, Part I, Part II and Part III) on the Integral World website. I also want to thank Elliot for engaging in the discussion (thereby displaying a generosity of spirit that would not always be associated with his professional colleagues). One of the advantages of a discussion is that it enables one to talk more informally about issues, providing further context for the articles and thereby perhaps more easily conveying to the general reader the nature of the issues involved. So what we are talking about here is the fundamental nature of our number system!
