A sharp analysis by Falk of Wilber's treatment of evolutionary theory. And don't say "this is old stuff, integral theory has moved on". As long as criticism like hasn't properly been answered, I will continue to publish it, if needed till the end of time. And a perceptive essay by Andy Smith about the ways Darwinism has expanded it scope over the years. With a critique of self-organization theories so popular in integral culture. WILBERIAN EVOLUTION - GEOFFREY FALK Notwithstanding his reputation as a brilliant academic, Wilber has grossly misrepresented basic, high-school-level concepts in evolutionary theory, in Chapter One of his (1996) A Brief History of Everything. SMITH Darwinism, in its modern or "synthetic" form, is accepted by a consensus among evolutionary biologists as the major explanation of how different forms of life arose. Many critics of the theory, however, including a significant number of scientists as well as philosophers, argue that random variation and natural selection can't account for major evolutionary transitions, including the emergence of not only complex new adaptations in organisms, but entirely new levels of existence, such as the first cells and the first multicellular organisms.
