Amsterdam, April 18, 2006 ** Some of you might receive this Newsletter twice, just ignore one ;-)** AN IMP RUNS AMOK Andy Smith has started reflecting on Wilber's latest (and sometimes yet to be published) writings. He analyses the eight primordial perspectives: "Ken Wilber has recently introduced a system he refers to as Integral Methodological Pluralism (IMP). It is based on dividing each of his four quadrants into an outside and inside, and according to Wilber, this generates eight independent perspectives that constitute various ways that humans can know the world. In this article I point out some inconsistencies in Wilber's definitions of these perspectives, and propose an alternative scheme, based on my one-scale model, of understanding them. Ken Wilber's famous quadrants, in case anyone hadn't noticed, have doubled in number. The four fundamental aspects of a holon have become eight fundamental perspectives of a holon. Wilber leaves no doubt about how significant he believes this new formulation is." Habermas is a great scholar and his depiction of social evolution is a compelling one, but it is not a summation of the orienting generalizations of the field. In fact, just the opposite is the case. Michiel Korthals, who's favorably disposed to the idea of societal development, assesses the status of the idea in the collection entitled "The Philosophy of Development": "The idea of societal development has often been connected with the idea of progress, for better or worse. Both ideas have met with severe criticisms, especially in anthropology and sociology, and it would be an understatement to say that in the present intellectual climate the very notion of a universal, progressive, cumulating development of society is not very popular.” Read More... http://www.integralworld.net/index.html?meyerhoff-ba-5.html 04/13/06: I started my own blog, Wilber Watch, which is available from the left Navigation bar under REFLECTION & DEBATE / INTEGRAL BLOGS. 04/03/06: A report ot he Dutch event "Ready to turn?"
